Rare soy brown glazed stoneware vessel made in the shape of a grain silo. This basic style are well documented in Qingbai wares but this is the first I have seen in a brown glaze, also it has a fence going around the base which is quite unusual. It is in excellent condition with no repairs, cracks or fritting of the glaze and it is unusually large. H: 24cm/9.5in and D: 18cm/7in. It reminds me a lot of a Jizhou glaze but this seems heavier and more stable.

Sino Tibetan Tara image, she is worshipped as a Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism and Bodhisattva in Mahayana, fundamentally she represents the feminine nature of Buddhism. She is seated in lalitasana with hands in varada- and vitarkamudra, with downcast eyes beneath a tiered crown fronting a tall chignon, wearing a dhoti, elaborate jewelry and long scarf. This is a lost wax bronze cast image copy of a Ming piece from the 20th century. The face is absolutely gorgeous. An original one would...

Rare early “si zhi” (four straight lines) style inkstone carved from an old fired brick. The characters on the brick are in an archaic style, no longer in use today. The square shaped flat bottomed inkstone with sloping grinding surface did not become popular until the Song Dynasty, so it is possible this was made into a inkstone long after it was a brick. Chinese are very fond of creating ink stones out of “found objects” such as roof tiles etc. Please examine enlargement for ...

Very rare antique lacquer box from the Southern Shan States circa late 19th CE to early 20th CE. This a complete set (which is rare in itself these days). The pattern though simple is exquisitely detailed. I have not seen this pattern documented anywhere and I have a few of this type all acquired in China in Yunnan, so I am wondering if it is possible it was made by the ethnic Shan (Daizu) living there. Some craquelure on the surface, as is expected and few minor chips at the bot...
