This is a molded gray clay brick/tile from the Tang Dynasty, featuring an "Atlas" type Yakshi figure seated on a lotus blossom. I encountered a similar figure during my visit to Taxila, the cradle of the Gandharan Civilization, which highlights the Greco-Roman origins of Tang art. The lotus signifies a clear Buddhist connection. While the left side of the face is slightly obscured, there is no damage. This piece is unusual in that it is smaller than others I have owned. Dimensions: Height 16cm (6.2 in) and Width 10 cm (4.1 in).
